Hi there,
I recently have been experiencing some issues with my touchpad. I believe the issue is originating with a recent update with Windows 10 that has been interfering with my touchpad/ clickpad driver. A couple of days ago it suddenly stopped working (froze completely) which resulted in me having to resort to a USB attachable mouse. Through a bunch of system restores and download of touchpad drivers provided through the hp website, I somehow got it to work. Unfortunately, a few days later the issue cropped up again, but this time I was unable to fix the problem going through what I thought were the same steps as last time. Some information about my laptop and touchpad driver
Some screenshots of the issue:
Additionally, in the device manager, the Synaptics driver does not show up until I select "view hidden devices". Hope this is clear. This problem is excruciatingly annoying.

Hi guys,
Amd just released an update for graphic drivers,
Download it here,
https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/Win10-64Bit-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-2019-Edition-18.12.2-Dec12.exe
then update your graphics driver as previously been said. extract it, go to manage, drivers, amd vega 8, update, have disk, and select amd vega 8, update!
that's it. It would probably solve all of the problems you had.
Mine works like a charm!

I just bought this laptop and I thought it was going to be great from all the reviews I had seen. I'm a student so I've been using my school laptop for most of my school work and haven't taken my new laptop any where. Today I went to go get on it and it wouldn't open any games or any browsers. I read somewhere to restart the laptop and that's what I did. It still didn't work. So I put the laptop up for a few hours and I came back to it to see if it would work again. It still won't open anything. I don't know what to do. Being a high school student, it was a lot of money for this laptop and I don't want it to fall apart. Someone, if you have the answer, plese help.
Thanks. After hours of frustration, your solve worked!
Btw I used Ryzen 3 2200G desktop driver and it worked.
That's very strange issue you report.
You use Probook 440 G4.
Similar model (older generation) - Probook 440 G2 is even certified as 100% compatible >> https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201411-16203/
I am not sure if you used Windows to create the Linux bootable media, but please try to re-download and re-create the LM image onto USB thumbdrive. Here are some instructions.
You will need :
- either 1 empty/blank USB thumb drive
- Linux based operating system ISO - e.g. Ubuntu or Linux Mint
You can directly download Ubuntu Desktop from Ubuntu's web site:
Download the x64 ISO > https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop
Once ready, you need to write the ISO to make a bootable media (e.g. bootable USB drive). Here is how:
How to create bootable ISO on USB device >> http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
Use Rufus. Consider the partition scheme and target system options.
When ready with the USB drive :
* Ensure Secure Boot is disabled (if applicable for your model)
* Ensure Legacy mode is enabled (if applicable for your model)
* Save the UEFI/BIOS changes.
(if applicable for your model) Details>> http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03653226
Boot from it again.
Search for open GParted. Make sure you erase everything from the dis with it prior to proceeding with the LM (or Ubuntu) installation. GParted is part of the live installers of both Mint and Ubuntu.
I did update after I did a driver cleanup with DDU. The setup said installed 18.82.12 but no control panel installed and the drivers were stil MS basic display driver. I was able to force install the dec 6 2018 driver and it does work well so far. I cannot find a way to install the Radeon settings or control panel.....
As the title states my function keys dont work. a couple are assigned different functions. Volume Up, Down, Airplane mode, Brightness, etc.... I checked windows mobility and the option isnt there to change or adjust them. This Laptop is 3 days old and ive invested a considerable amount of time setting up adobe, Autodesk, etc..., before realizing the issue and returning the computer for another really isnt an option. Id prefer to just correct it rather than spend countless hours setting another pc up. Any suggestions, pointers, tips, guidance, whatever, im all ears. :-)
Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.
I reviewed the case regarding issues with the function keys not working. I will be delighted to assist you here.
Here’s the step by step guide for you:
Click the Start button, then click Run.
In the Run window, next to Open, type MSCONFIG.
Press the ENTER key.
In the System Configuration Utility window, click the Startup tab.
On the Startup tab, under Startup Item, ensure that there is a check in the HKserv checkbox.

Bless you, sir or madam. I just got an HP Spectre x360 15, and had the exact same problem. years of using a different laptop taught me a bunch of muscle memory to use a 3-finger tap as middle mouse button. I was INCENSED that HP/Synaptics saw fit to force more Cortana on me, instead of allowing me the simple measure of customizing how I want to use the computer I paid for. (conspiracy theory: Microsoft is likely paying a handsome fee to have OEMs push their data-collection services on us and NOT provide us with an option to use our hardware for functions that we actually want, or that make us more productive).
Anyway, ranting aside, your solution is the ONLY one that worked for me. Fortunately, I was already an AHK junkie, so my only difficulty was in dealing with the arcane VKEY sequencing in the registry, which i would have NEVER been able to accomplish without your thoughtful and detailed guide. So there you have it-- you've single-handedly provided better customer service than the multi-million-dollar corporation that actually makes this stuff. This shouldn't be necessary, if market competition was functioning correctly, but in this imperfect world, thank you SO MUCH for being so excessively useful. If you're ever in central Texas, I'll buy you a [beverage]!

P.S.
I actually registered just to say thank you, and if you knew how slovenly I am, you'd realize how big of a compliment that is to you :)

Out of nowhere my keys F1 -F12 arent working at all and nothing happened to my laptop, like i said before it was out of nowhere any suggestions.
Out of nowhere my keys F1 -F12 ( Brightness, audio, pause/play, fast forward, rewinding , airplaine mode , ETC ) arent working at all and nothing happened to my laptop, like i said before it was out of nowhere any suggestions.
Updated my HP Omen 15 2018 (i7 8750H, GTX 1060, 16GB RAM, 256 m.2 SSD plus 1TB HDD) to latest Windows 10 v1809. No problem until I downloaded and installed latest (Nov 2018) drivers for my particular Omen at HP Support (my laptop is registered, easy to see if new drivers are available).
After HP support drivers were installed, Omen now severely throttles CPU after about 15mins of CPU intensive gaming (although because this is a 6 core CPU, only 50% CPU usage is registered, much headroom for performance). GPU use is only 40 to 55% while gaming.
When it throttles, game runs slow, super slow, diving to 10fps (from 80 to 100fps), CPU usage dips to 30%, and GPU usage follows as 10fps does not need much GPU power. Neither CPU or GPU goes past 50% usage, yet it throttles down. CPU Temps do go at 90degrees C at start of game (GPU never goes beyond 75deg C). Omen Control Center set to Performance (same effect happens when set to Standard), Power Plan set to HP recommended (power plan created by HP, and is actually the only plan, unless you create your own.
Note, among drivers installed that caused the severe throttling is latest BIOS, and Intel Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework Client driver. All drivers from HP Support.
Is HP going to turn this gaming spec Omen to an office work laptop with this aggressive throttling via latest drivers? And 10fps is just unplayable.
Note: No BIOS adjustments, no throttle stop or other overclocking solutions installed/used in this machine.
