Looks like you bought a machine with only 32GB of eMMC storage not memory and you did not do a research before making decision to buy THAT machine. If you wish to store all files for your school you have to use SD card or external HDD/USB flash drive.

Can you return it and buy a proper machine ?

Regards.

Unable to Dispute Warranty

Hi,

So for the last 3 weeks, I have been attempting to dispute the warranty on my HP laptop.  I've requested several support tickets and never receive a response.  I've waited on the phone for an hour over 6 times without an answer.   I've sent emails and have not received any response.

I HAVE ATTEMPTED TO SUBMIT A WARRANTY DISPUTE SEVERAL TIMES AND KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT HP CUSTOMER SERVICE IS UNAVAILABLE AT THIS TIME FOR 3 WEEKS, SO PLEASE DO NOT PROVIDE ME THE "CHECK WARRANTY STATUS" LINK OR THE "WARRANTY DISPUTE" LINK!

I've bought and used HP products for the last 12 years without ever needing support from HP.  Unless a good positive outcomes happens as a result at the end of this situation, never again will I put myself in such a stressful situation from such a company.

There are things you can do to reduce the amounts of disk space that has been used:http://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/3012-disk-cleanup-open-use-windows-10-a.html
http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/83441-free-up-drive-space-windows-10-a.html

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here: https://www.getclone.app/download/category/11-cleanmgr

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Re: HP EliteBook 840 G2 bios password reset

Here I would like to give some details for the resting the bios password, but you should have some hardware knowledge about the laptop. I have reset the password of my customers laptop (model - HP Elitebook 820 G1) . When I was gone through the internet for getting the solution, I got three options for doing this process.

1. You have to reveive the smc.bin from HP support team and do the process according the support team.

2. You have to buy new bios chip from online stores and replace the bios chip.

3. You have to erase the bios rom file and write the new bios rom file into it.

I have done the 3rd step and I have successfully completed it. In order to do it you needed the bios programmer kit and the bios rom file (you can download it from internet without any charges)

New Laptop - WIndows 10 Home - How to DItch the Enforced Microsoft Account at login?

I recently purchased a second laptop, this time for my wife.

On booting it it runs through the HP setup stuff, but unlike the one I bought about 3 months ago this one forced setting up a Microsoft account that we don't want.

We've binned the One Drive and some other rubbish that was also forceably installed by being forced to create an MS account by the startup process.

How do we ditch it and get the laptop to boot and use a local administrator account ditching all ties with MS except the blooming awful WIndows Update feature?

Advice please?

Thanks

Why do HP force this on customers?

Hi:

Every PC manufacturer does it, not just HP.

Even when you clean install an operating system, you have to know exactly what to do to avoid having to use the Microsoft account.

The main thing I don't like about it, is that if someone is able to get into your Microsoft account, they can change the password and now you are locked out of your PC!

Anyway, see the link below for how to switch to a local account.

Thank you for the rapid reply Paul.

Mission accomplished MS account can go fester.  I agree totally with your concerns. Sadly I have the experience too that Apple have been horribly unhelpful to my wife who's iPAD locked itself.  Somehow something got pressed, and as happens her email account that was associated with the Apple account is no longer and to make matters worse the scribbles that were made for account hints etc. a few years ago now seem not to work. Even though we have emails to and from here old email account from 2016 including the Apple configuration one... they won't help us so that device is only fit for the bin.  Moral never buy from that decidedly unhelpful manufacturer again.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

  • Are you signed in as an administrator?
  • Have you tried using Windows key + I to open Windows settings?

Windows 8 includes a feature called Refresh your PC that allows you to refresh your computer without affecting your files. This can be useful to recover from a problem. The Refresh option is primarily a repair method - a way to return your computer to a known good state.

Use the following steps to refresh your computer from the Start screen:

  1. From the Start screen, type refresh to open the Search charm, and then select Refresh your PC without affecting your files from the search results.

    Figure: Search for a refresh

    Image of refresh search results

The Update and Recovery window opens.

  2. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, click Get started.

    Figure: Update and Recovery

Image of Refresh your PC without affecting your files selected
  3. On the Refresh your PC screen, click Next.

    Figure: Refresh your PC

    Image of Refresh your PC
NOTE: If prompted to insert media, insert your Windows 8 installation disc or recovery media.
  4. Take note of the apps you will need to reinstall after refreshing the computer, and then click Next.

Figure: Apps you will need to reinstall

Image of Apps you will need to reinstall
  5. When ready, click Refresh.

Figure: Ready to refresh your PC

  6. Wait while Windows refreshes your computer. This might take a while, and your computer will restart.

    Figure: Refreshing your computer

  7. When the refresh is complete and the lock screen appears, log in to Windows.

NOTE: At the end of the refresh process, an HTML file called Removed Apps.html is placed on the desktop with a list of the desktop apps that were removed so you know what to reinstall.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

If you do not see the version of your BIOS listed, HP does not have any downloadable BIOS for your product.

Note: Do not install BIOS updates from the motherboard manufacturer's website. Doing so can prevent the computer from accepting an HP System Recovery.

You can use HP support assistant and windows update to check for the latest software and bios.

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open the HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Wireless iAP and AAP Server Drivers Windows 7?

$

I have two drivers for which Windows can not find files. The first is "AAP Server" for which the two listed Hardware ID's are "BTHENUM\{74ec2172-0bad-4d01-8f77-997b2be0722a}_VID&0001004c_PID&2003" and "BTHENUM\{74ec2172-0bad-4d01-8f77-997b2be0722a}_LOCALMFG&000a". The second is "iAP Wireless", for which the hardware ID's are "BTHENUM\{02030302-1d19-415f-86f2-22a2106a0a78}_VID&0001004c_PID&2003" and "BTHENUM\{02030302-1d19-415f-86f2-22a2106a0a78}_LOCALMFG&000a". I have asked the manufacturers, Microsoft, and Googled a ton and haven't found anything so HP support is kind of my last resort. Where can I get these driver files for install?

Thanks in advance for your help!
