Hi:

You need this W8.1 driver for that device...

This package provides the HP 3D DriveGuard Software for supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The HP 3D DriveGuard Software protects the hard drive by parking the heads if the notebook is accidentally dropped, or is abruptly impacted by another object.

FN action keys not working

I just got my HP ENVY x360 - 15-cn0007na.

The actions keys are not working. When I press "fn" key and then one of the function keys to access the actions such as keyboard backlight, screnn brightness etc, nothing happens.

I have verified that the actions keys are enabled in the BIOS.

Thanks in advance!

HP Omen command centre issue

I bought this laptop last week brand new, and have an error every time I boot.

I'm getting a "the data area passed to a system call is too small" error. This error box pops up on boot and when I try to open the omen command centre.

It also had the error for mcafee and skype, but I've uninstalled them as I don't use them anyway.

I contacted HP chat and the only thing they could suggest was to reset to factory settings, which I don't want to do as I've just spent the last 5 days installing everything I need to work with

Can anyone help. I've googled the error, but can't find anyone who has had this in relation to omen cammand centre, but always seems to be with windows apps.

The folder and file it refers to in the error is in the program files\windowsapps folder, but I can't gain access

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling but no joy

Cheers in advance

Some times only the wizard get frizzed, some times OS get frizzed.

I tryed with the lastest version of: Ubuntu, Mint, Elementary iven Kali.

I was thinking the reason was Legacy and secure boot, but a friend told me it is the last linux kernel, so i'll try a old ubuntu version and see what happend.

I cant remember the error codes. It was working fine until I downloaded World of Warships a week ago which was on HDD, its now deleted. i've had the laptop since late August, ive tried to check for corrupted files through command prompt as well as tried various recoveries except for clearing the laptop completely or reinstalling windows. I  also ran a fast system check.

I think i might be blue screening because of poor connection but im pretty sure that can't be the cause.

OK GUYS I found a potential fix for video issues.

https://www.dirtriverdesign.com/how-to-improve-hp-envy-x360-stability-amd-ryzen-2500u-vega-8-graphics-update/

Following this guys instructions (Step 2 only) I found that YouTube no longer crashes the system. Fired up an old XVID encoded video in VLC which worked fine. Tried a HEVC video but this displayed a green screen although the audio played fine. No crashes. Disabling hardware acceleration and restarting VLC before playing again fixed this issue.

Fired up a game and it's still running fine ten minutes in.

I downloaded the last set of drivers he tested and claimed to work fine and, so far so good for me

Follow his instructions and I have my fingers crossed for you guys!

Will update here if anything goes awry at any point.

Re: how to close a dialog box

That is some "old, dusty" Word software.

Regardless, this error has been around since at least 2008 - and it has naught to do with your "HP" brand computer.  It is more a "Windows" and "Office" issue that can happen on a variety of computers and installation.

I did find recent mention of the problem in the Microsoft forum thread:

Why am I receiving this pop up box on Office Word 2007? Command cannot be performed because a dialog box is opened, click OK, then close the dialog box to continue

Answer provided by Doug Robbins - Word MVP dated June 22, 2018

Excerpt:

Start Word and then use File>Open and browse to and select the document that you want to open.

Suggestion:

If Doug's answer helps you, be sure to click his "Did this solve your problem" Yes button on the Microsoft thread.

The thread is long, convoluted, and filled with comments and possible solutions.  It is at least worth your time to take a look at what customers have to say about the issue.

Good Luck.

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out :)

I see that you're the USB and Keyboard stopped responding correctly,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
  • Did this happen after a recent window or software update?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

Let's perform a hard reset:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Unplug all the Adapter and peripherals connected.

3) Remove the Battery.

4) Press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds.

5) Plug-in the Adapter and put the Battery back into the computer.

6) Try to turn on the computer.

Next change bios default settings:

1) Shutdown the computer.

2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.

3) Press F10 once for BIOS.

4) Press F9 for BIOS defaults.

5) Press F10 to save and exit.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Hello!

Thanks for the help, the link you provided states it is for Intel processors, however my laptop has an AMD processor. Does this matter?

Thanks!

Thank you for posting back.

As you've mentioned the issue occurred after install installing "World of Warships" hence this sounds like software related issue.

Let's perform a system restore and check:

The System Restore automatically creates restore points, a memory of the system files and settings on the computer at a particular point in time.  System Restore to restore your computer to a point in time before an issue began, System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point.

  1. Save any open files and close all open programs.

  2. In Windows, search for restore, and then open Create a restore point from the results list.

    Creating a restore point

System Properties opens with the System Protection tab selected.

  3. On the System Protection tab, click System Restore.

Selecting System Restore on the System Protection tab

    The System Restore window opens.

  4. Click Next.

The System Restore window, with Next circled in red

  5. Click the Restore Point that you want to use, then click Next.

    The confirmation window opens.

  6. Click Finish to restore your computer to a previous point.

The Confirm your restore point System Properties window, with Finish selected

  7. Do not interrupt System Restore when it starts. This can corrupt your hard drive and create more problems. Click Yes in the warning that appears.

The warning that appears before beginning a System Restore

  8. System Restore returns the computer configuration to a previous point in time and restarts.

Couple general thoughts:

I'm thinking those who have laptops under warranty damaged by F19 BIOS update need to verify CMOS checksum, if invalid and recovery did nothing, should contact HP support.

For those out of warranty: possibly paid support/repair via HP or repair shop with expertise in programming BIOS.

Those willing to experiment on their own risk (out of warranty):

there are some universal flashers, like Uniflash 1.40. I'd flash with F19 first and if it goes OK but laptop is still limping, try lower version(s). Before reflashing try testing or backing up existing BIOS to see if the utility is a good fit.

In case of failure consider reprogramming BIOS EPROM with the last used good BIOS ver. by a qualified tech shop.

Mine is still under warranty so the answer is clear.

Edit: just tested Uniflash 1.4 on an old laptop, it did not recognise the chipset and manuf. data properly, so no go.

I'll check other tools too.

Annoying Static Noise While Watching Videos

$

Hi,

I just bought a new HP Specter x360 Convertible (Model 13-ae011dx) a couple weeks ago and the speakers are producing a bad static noise while I'm watching videos. I've tried updating the BIOS but the noise is still present. I also tried using the notebook's Audio Check Diagnostic but it said that everything was running correctly. Is this a hardware issue or what?

Thanks

Bios agent plus says that your bios is AMI, but when I open AMI flash it says it isn't.

whats should i do?

Try making a backup  with this tool, save existing BIOS to a file, see if it can read BIOS and make a backup. That's least intrusive way of testing.

You are welcome!

How about doing the very standard installation the first time and choosing Erase disk instead of making partitions manually ?
