Hi @The_Fossette,

Thanks for your quick reply.

I won't call HP phone support any longer; I called them last time. They asked to use any passive pens instead of the HP active pen. I wait on phone for half hour and the service agent give me passive pen solution by answering me in less a minute.

I will wait for HP insedy BIOS update for this specific 2-in-1laptop; because this is my first 32-GB DDR ram convertible touchscreen laptop; it is still very valuable even though the active pen is not working - BTW, passive pen use experience is not exciting...

i do hope you will follow up HP QA engineers to improve the products.

Once again, appreciate your time and help.

My simplepass fingerprint reader stopped working the other day.  I went through the troubleshooting recommendations and  the BIOS is up to date.  In the Device manager properties for the biometrics it says that

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19).

Is there a way to  repair it safely by me?

I was able to fix the problem by redownloading the driver sp 55109.  The fingerprint reader is now up and running.

I'm not finding any info for that model number. You actually need to find the letters/numbers that come after Pavilion 15 -- for example, HP Pavilion 15-ab500. Then you can look up the model in the list I linked you to, and if it's on there, the softpaq to resolve it will be right next to it in the table.

Hi ,

Thank you for visiting the HP Forums! A great place where you can find solutions for your issues with help from the community! I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand you are having issues with you laptop shuts down randomly, don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Does the laptop shuts down due to overheating?

Have you checked if the laptop shuts down in Bios?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

In the meantime, let's start off by performing a Hard reset on the Notebook:

Step 1: Performing a hard reset: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.

Step 2: Boot the computer into the Bios screen and check if it shuts down.

1. Turn off your computer
2. Make sure you have connected the power cable
3. Turn on your notebook, as it is starting press the  F10 button repeatedly

Once you are in the BIOS, leave the  computer in the Bios screen for a while and check if it stays ON or does it shuts down. If the laptop shuts down even in the Bios it is likely a hardware failure.

If the laptop stays on in the Bios, I would suggest you try these steps here:

Symptoms of heat issues and causes of excessive heat

The following list describes some of the issues caused by overheating in the notebook:

  • Games stop responding during play.

  • Windows stops responding during use.

  • Fans inside the notebook become louder because they are spinning faster as the laptop gets hot, to remove the heat.

  • When starting the laptop, it sometimes stops at a black screen and does not open into Windows. Windows usually stop responding when it does open.

The following list describes some causes of excessive heat:

  • Dust inside the laptop.

  • A new component, such as a hard drive, is added. The extra component causes the power supply to work harder and generate more heat. Extra heat also radiates off the new component and adds to the temperature inside the case.

  • Over time, some cooling fans might slow down and wear out, as the laptop is getting hot, depending on the usage of the laptop.

  • High ambient room temperature.

Step 1: Removing dust and lint by cleaning vents

Step 2: Ensuring proper space for ventilation

Step 3: Updating the BIOS

Step 4: Using HP CoolSense technology

Step 5: Placing the notebook in a cooler room

Step 6: Testing for hardware failure

If the hardware has failed, capture the failure ID and revert for further assistance.

If the Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than Normal: Click here for more details.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it goes for further assistance.

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

The HP recovery manager application is not working. I uninstalled it. I need to download from HP and re-install it. I googled from this site. Either the link is just update or it does not work for my laptop. Where to download it?  Thanks!

Thank you for your response.  My model is HP ENVY TS 17 Notebook PC.  I don't see it on the list.  Does that mean I don't have the issue?  Thanks!
