Re: Unable to download anything on new laptop

Hello, and Welcome to the HP Support Community!

By any chance, are you using MicroSoft Edge as your browser?  There are numerous posts on the Forum from users having lots of issues just like yours.

Windows 10 PC's also come with Internet Explorer installed.  Tap the Windows icon, the scroll down the list of All Apps until you see "Windows Accessories".  In this folder you'll find Internet Explorer.

Open it, and then try to download Chrome.

Let us know if this helps!

Right -- and you said "rescue disk" -- which is a BOOTABLE disk that does not require Windows to run.

These disks are specifically designed to boot into a form of Linux, which the viruses can't affect, so you can then launch their malware removal apps and clean the PC.

Pre-installed software installation after factory reset

I got my computer from a family member who had too many viruses and old programs on the computer.  They did not have any CD's that came with the computer.  I would like to download any of the pre-installed software that came with the computer i.e. Microsoft Office.  Any suggestions on how to do this?  I went to Microsoft.com and tried to download the Office but when I entered the KEY it said that it was a pre-installed software and contact the manufacturer to find out how to reinstall.

Thank you,

Brad

The screenshot shows "Pen" Firmware, and this is generally not applicable to a mouse because pens often use pressure, which a mouse does not use.  So, if you're trying to install that, it's no surprise it will not work.

If you are convinced that is the right software, then you should visit the support forum for the mouse manufacturer and see what they say about the drivers to be installed.

Good Luck

Sorry, maybe I wrongly interpreted the question. By mouse I meant cursor, or pointer if you will.

Anyway. Found a solution. Apparently, the softpaq does not support windows 10. So i installed windows 7 on a separate partition and the softpaq detected the correct display and flashed the firmware. My cursor no longer moves when CPU utilization is high. Then using diskmgmt.msc I deleted the windows 7 partition.

Ideas

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgBefore you make any changes, Create a Restore Point:

Stop all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel> icon view > System> System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgPerform a Hard Reset (device reset)

  • Perform the Hard Reset for your notebook
  • Boot the computer and log in

Reminder:  Forced Reset is a device Reset.  The Forced Reset procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows software or data in any way.  It just "clears the cobwebs".  Depending on the cause of the problem, this kind of "reset" can fix a variety of computer glitches.

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgReinstall the Validity Driver

  • Open the Device Manager > open Biometric > Right-Click on your Validity Driver > Uninstall
  • Shut down the computer, wait a few seconds, boot and log in

The driver will reinstall itself as you boot / log into the machine.

Yellow_Arrow_Bullet_2.jpgReinstall the HP SimplePass Program

Assuming you are still using the "old" Series 6 HP SimplePass program) >

Download and install the latest version of the Series 6 HP SimplePass program:

sp63224 HP SimplePass V6.0.100.276 Win7-8

OR

IF you have previously switched to the "new" Series 8 HP SimplePass prgram >

Download and install the latest version of the Series 8 HP SimplePass program:

sp76923 HP SimplePass V8.01.62A W7-W10 32/64bit

After you install the program > Reboot the computer and log in

Remember:

  • Series 6 HP SimplePass, that is, any version 6.x and even the ancient 5.x versions of HP SimplePass, are the AuthenTec code (written by AuthenTec).

  • Series 8 HP SimplePass, that is, any version 8.x (or higher) of HP SimplePass, is the Softex code that is currently supported and available for Windows 7 through Windows 10.

  • The two series are NOT, repeat NOT compatible with one another.  The two programs cannot be on the computer at the same time.
  • The code is different, the encryption is different, there is not conversion program between Export database (backup of website / passwords)

You can Switch series:

  • Uninstall one series > reboot > install the other series > reboot
  • Series 8 is NOT an "upgrade" to Series 6.

The page does not indicate any Office applications but it is possible that it was still preinstalled.  If the PC will still boot, run a key finder software IE: https://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

That will give the keys for all of the added software before you get rid of the Windows install.  If that suggestion is too late, then you are really too late, and need to repurchase the software.

HP Support - Order software and driver media help; unable to put in serial number

So, I didn't know where else to go to ask this question, so I put it here.  If you know the answer in a different forum page, please let me know.

The hard drive to my HP crashed and I recently purchased a new one.  I have gotten to the point where I am going to need to obtain a new OS for it.

I made it to the HP website, to the "HP Support - Order software and driver media" page to purchase the software/driver that I need for it.  I would like to purchase it, but it seems that the website will not accept my Serial Number.  It's nothing complex; it simply won't let me type it in.  I am able to put in my information on the other bars (name, address, etc.), but won't for that line.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?  I'm worried that it's going to tell me that there aren't any more left, which would be awful, and I'm hoping that it's just a webpage bug.

If anyone could help, that would be great.

Hi Visruth,

Many thanks for your suggestion.  However I am using Windows 10 Home 64 bit. Your link says it only works with 32 bit. Do you have any other suggestions?  (I don't have much computer knowledge.) Many thanks.

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

When a new PC comes with MS Office, it is generally a trial version, typically 60 days or so, and when that trial period is over, you have to upgrade to a paid version to keep using it.

Different resellers, though, offer different bundled deals to sell HP PCs, so you would have to check with Office Depot to see what they included, because these days, some resellers include a subscription to Office 365, and that could be a full year's susbscription (if that is what they provided).

NOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while!

If you have trouble finding a phone number, then try: 1 (800) 474-6836
