Automatic HP BIOS Update
Hi. Today, I opened my HP laptop and it was off. It is usually just asleep, but his time it was off. I powered it up and received a full page screen message that read "HP BIOS Upate". It gave about 10 seconds for me to stop the update (I did not stop it) and then it automatically updated. Upon completion, the computer restarted on it's on. Is this auto update legit or is this a virus?!?! I've never had a computer do this.
Re: Automatic HP BIOS Update
Hi:
If you have one of the envy x360's with one of the Ryzen 4xxx processors, It was probably legit.
I had the same thing happen on my x360 15-ee0047nr yesterday.
Windows update installed a 'system firmware' update file. It was an optional update, so I let it install.
I ended up with BIOS v F.15.
Re: PCI Device
Hi:
Normally Windows labels the Realtek SD card reader driver as a PCI device when no driver is installed.
You didn't provide the exact model number, so see if this driver works for you.
This is from the Omen 15-ce0xx model series, which was from around 2017.
This package contains the driver that enables the Realtek Card Reader in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The card reader enables users to read from or write to supported removable storage cards, which are typically used in digital cameras, digital music players, and cellular phones.
Re: Automatic HP BIOS Update
Hi. Thank you so much for responding. My laptop has an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processor. The HP Bios Update message read that it was installing version 3.9.3.0. I just checked my BIOS version using "run" "msinfo32" and it reads "BIOS Version/Date Insyde F.07, 11/10/2020". I could just kick myself for not stopping the update. I hope you're right and it's legit!
Re: Automatic HP BIOS Update
I just checked my windows updates. I see now where there was an HP Inc. - Firmware - 15.7.0.0 driver update. It looks to be legit. Yay!
Re: Automatic HP BIOS Update
You're very welcome.
Game not working
Hello,
I have the HP 15-db0xxx and I have been trying to run Forza Horizon 3 on it for about a year now and it still wont work. The game needed a 8Gb or higher ram and so I put 16Gb of ram in but now it says that my problem is video memory. It says that I need a minimum of 2Gb video memory to run the game but it says that it can't detect my video memory. I have put over $100 into one game and it still does not work. when I click on it, it shows it as if it were loading but then after about 30 seconds to 1min it exits out of the game and does nothing else.
Re: Game not working
What is your HP 15-db0xxx ? Does it meet requirements of your Forza Horizon 3 game ? Please use the following way to find out the model/product of your machine
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00033108
Please do NOT post its Serial number (s/n).
Regards.
I'm not sure if this is where to ask my concern. My email has not downloaded any new emails since 12/23. I must have changed a setting by accident. Can anyone please advise on what to do? Thanks

No drivers for AMD graphics after update to Windows 10
Hello,
I need help, brightness is at 100%, my eyes hurt.
I have a HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC, model: 15-e041ss, product number: E6Z59EA#ABE.
I updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 pro (64 bits), clean installation (new SSD).
Installation went smoothly, once installed I added all windows updates available. That included some AMD updates.
However I realised I can not change the brightness, hot-keys don't work, and in menus or screen config, brightness doesn't appear.
I have searched in different forums and tried different solutions, no luck:
I downloaded HP support assistant, it did not show any updates for graphics, just network. Checked HP site, got a message telling that HP does not offer drivers for W10 for products sold before august 2013 (exactly when I bought my laptop)
AMD tool for drivers does not offer anything for my laptop and OS.
I tried using Snappy Driver Installer, installed the driver, but I it was not properly installed, in every boot I got an error telling me the driver is missing or not functioning correctly.
In device manager I could see two screen controllers, AMD Radeon HD 8600 series, and AMD HD 8650G.
Uninstalling all drivers from Device manager and using the basic one from Microsoft does make brightness control appear, BUT it doesn't work, brightness is always at 100%, I can't control it.
I truly can't look for long at it due to the brightness. Any ideas?
Re: No drivers for AMD graphics after update to Windows 10
Hi:
The only suggestion I can offer would be to see if this W10 AMD switchable graphics driver works on your model.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71870.exe
If not, I suggest you go back to W8.1 while you still can.
Looking for customer support phone number
Just got the computer and trying to speak with a human customer service rep. Can't find a phone number even though paperwork received from HP promises calls the first 90 days.
Re: Pop up box
As I understand you need a fix for the pop-up message event log,
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Do you get any blue screen errors before the device shuts down?
While you respond to that, here's what you need to know:
This scenario usually indicates a problem with the hardware. To help isolate the problem, check the following items:
- Overclocking: Disable overclocking to see whether the issue occurs when the system is run at the correct speed.
- Check the memory: Verify the memory by using a memory checker. Verify that
- at each memory chip is the same speed and that it is configured correctly in the system.
- Power supply: Make sure that the power supply has enough wattage to appropriately handle the installed devices. If you added memory, installed a newer processor, installed additional drives, or added external devices, such devices can require more energy than the current power supply can provide consistently.
- Overheating: Check whether the system is overheating by examining the internal temperature of the hardware.
- Defaults: Reset the system back to the system defaults to see whether the issues occur when the system is running in its default configuration.
If you see that the computer generates a Stop error that contains a BugcheckCode value that is not reported in an event ID 41, change the restart behavior for the computer. To do this, follow these steps:
- Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
- Click Advanced system settings.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- In the Startup and Recovery section, click Settings.
- Click to clear the Automatically restart check box.
If you've been using the Recovery Partition (F11) to reinstall the OS, I recommend using the Recovery media instead to wipe out the HDD and create a new partition and fresh OS installation: Click here to obtain one, if you don't have on in your possession.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Re: No drivers for AMD graphics after update to Windows 10
Hello Paul,
As you suggested, I installed it. Laptop crashed half way through the installation (I was installing more stuff than the graphic driver), got a windows blue screen , screen did not turn on on the first boot (I panicked), on the second it kept twinkling for a while, but on the third, it worked!!!
Booting takes a bit longuer now, but my eyes are so relieved
I can't thank you enough, you sir, are awesome.
Re: Computer slows down when on charger
