OK, that's interesting. When I ran that file on my desktop to burn the bootable CD, an early screen said that it's for use with recovery disks that come from HP, not recovery disks that were created by the user. Then at the end of the burn process, a window came up with just the program name and [Yes], [No], and [Cancel] buttons. Not sure what to do, I clicked [Yes] and it proceeded to restart my desktop but I managed to get the CD out before it could run. I now infer that the missing phrase in the window is "Do you want to run Cyberlink..."
That being said, it did the trick. My laptop now boots and I have the task of seeing what was backed up and if it's worth restoring.
Finally before I mark it "Solved", please answer my first question as to what those error codes mean. HP is doing a dis-service to those of us that are technically savvy by not elaborating.
