making recovery media on external hard disk

Hi all,

I want to make a recovery from my hp envy 15j063 and I wanna do that over a flash drive. My flash drive is a sandisk one which is diagnosed as a hard disk partition. Is there any way that I can use that drive as a recovery destination?
