Probook 4510s - Non-system disk or disk error - win XP, Vista, win 8

I made the mistake of wiping my HDD together with the secure partition and now I'm getting the following error with my HP Probook 4510s:

Non-system disk or disk error
replace and strike any key when ready

What I have tried so far:

  1. Inserting a genuine XP or Win 8 disc doesn't offer a solution. It is not recognized.
  2. Also tried to boot from an USB drive with a small Linux OS, but still the same error.
  3. I have ran the tests under the F2 menu. All tests passed.
  4. I removed the HDD, put it in a external case, hooked it up to a different computer. It gets recognized, so I know the HDD still works.
  5. One tip that I found on the forum was to format it and then put it back in the laptop. Same result.
  6. Tried to change the boot order, tried to exclude the drive from the boot order, tried to boot only from usb, tried to reset boot settings but none of these worked.

As far as I can tell from the stickers the Notebook was delivered with Vista out of the box, then later had XP as an operating system.

I can't seem to order a recovery disc or download one from the HP website.

Does anybody have a solution for this issue?

Thank you in advance!
