HP 2000 W8 recovery using factory discs

I have HP 2000-bf69WM with W8. Hard drive failed. It passed one of two bios system tests and failed one. Sounded nice in docking station but clattered when tried to access data! Had to buy new HD (WD Black) and ordered recovery discs from HP.  Recovery seemed to go well thru 3 OS discs and drivers and apps dics but would not complete last restart. I just get HP screen with rotating circular dots. Inserting Apps n Drivers disc seemed to start formatting HD again too though. Same if I skip that disc.  Have tried with and without last disc and have used HP web instructions to disable secure boot, enable legacy boot, and boot from CD/DVD. All methods wind up the same way. HP screen with rotating dots.  When I pull the HD and put in docking station it shows a single 79 Gb partition was made and an unallocated 230 Gb partition. New HD passed tests in the laptop and in docking station.   Despite part numbers on shipping paper not matching part numbers on discs HP sent me they assured me that is normal and I have the correct discs. Any tips on how I can get the recovery to go correctly?
