Yeah I understand that ... what failed was an update to the BIOS ... the BIOS is actually made up of multiple components. The BIOS command chip (or chipset) itself, some rewritable memory, a battery (to provide power to that rewritable memory even when the computer is powered down ... usually a CR2032 battery), and sometimes a data file on the hard drive (this is common with Macintosh based computers). Calling the chip fried seems a little drastic especially when it was a bad BIOS update.
